In Kilifi county 31 MCAs-elect have opted to 'hide' pending the election of a new speaker.
This follows reports that former speaker Jimmy Kahindi is attempting to bribe them with the purpose of being re-elected.
Detectives are currently investigating the matter in order to verify the claims but sought anonymity.
"This is a serious issue. For any leader of any assembly to officially be in a workshop, their budget must be approved by the County Assembly. In this case, no one has approved and they have not been sworn-in," one said as quoted by The Star.
One senior detective stated that they are also examining other incidents inclusive of the recent contract cancellation with Green County Construction Company Limited.
According to reports, Green County Construction Company Limited had been hired to build the Kilifi County Assembly office block costing Sh650 million.
"We know all the dirty work which is going on and the millions which has been wired to see the other contractor get the job,” the senior detective added.
However, Kahindi refuted the claims on the basis that he does not have the mandate to cancel a contract.
"I haven’t received any cash to terminate anyone’s contract. The elected MCAs are on their other duties and have not financed anyone to hide,” Kahindi said.
