Former Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi has been linked to the sale of over 66,000 acres of Giriama ranch. Kazungu has been accused of colluding with other persons to sell the piece of land to a private company at Sh13 billion. On Friday, a section of residents took to the streets to protest against the alleged sale of the ranch. The group claimed that Kazungu secretly sold the ranch alongside the ranch directors and local politicians including Former Ganze MP Joseph Kingi, Emanuel Mbaga, Akram Amran, Gonzi Masha and Samuel Mwangego. The infuriated residents brought business to a standstill in some parts of the county as they staged demos while holding placards."Joseph Kingi na Kazungu Kambi wacheni kutunyanyasa. (Joseph Kingi, Kazungu Kambi, stop exploiting us),” read some of the placards. The group called upon the National Land Commission (NKC) to come to their rescue, adding that over 15,000 residents will be left homeless if the piece of land remains sold. They said the decision to create the ranch was reached at to protect residents from being victims of land grabbing. Kenga Fondo, one of the residents claimed that a firm linked to Kazungu had acquired a Sh258 million loan using the ranch as security.Kambi, however, denied the claims, terming them baseless and ill-motivated. The CS argued that he is not the owner of the company, adding that he has no relationship with the directors.
