Former First Lady Lucy Kibaki, who died on Tuesday, has been hailed by a section of Nyamira County leaders as ‘irreplaceable’ moments after she passed on at a London hospital.

Mrs Kibaki has not been seen in public since the retirement of President Mwai Kibaki in 2013 before she was rushed to London last week.

In Nyamira, County First Lady Naomi Nyagarama mourned Mrs Kibaki as a ‘rare’ species in Kenyan politics, citing her contribution to multiparty democracy.

“On behalf of People from Nyamira County, we join the Kibaki family during this trying moments after the demise of their beloved one. She was a rare species in Kenyan politics especially her contributions towards multiparty democracy,” she said.

“In deed we will miss her because she was irreplaceable and a role model to Kenyan women because she was fearless. It’s once again a big loss to us as a country,” she said.

Women Representative Alice Chae hailed Mrs Kibaki’s contributions to health sector through her philanthropist activities across the country.

“She was very compassionate especially on matters health. There are a number of health centers and hospitals across the country build through her initiatives. This is a tragedy to the nation and we pray for their family this trying moments,” Chae said.
