A former governor has thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing him to serve in the cabinet that will steer the country's development agenda between 2017 and 2022.
Ukur Yatani (formerly of Marsabit county) said his appointment to the cabinet is a win for the entire arid Northern Kenya region.
"I am humbled and graciously accept the nomination by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta as a Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection," Yatani posted on his official Facebook page on Monday.
"This is an honour for me and my family and for the people of northern Kenya. I want to assure the President and the Deputy President that I will work towards the delivery of the big four agenda and Kenya’s Vision 2030 and will serve with dedication and integrity to fulfill the mandate of the ministry and to improve service delivery for all Kenyans."
The former county chief is among the only two former governors who landed the plum position as Uhuru begins to serve his last term which ends in 2022.
The only other former governor, apart from Yatani who made it to cabinet was former Meru Governor Peter Munya who was appointed CS for East African Community Affairs.
Uhuru officially ended speculation on when he will appoint his full cabinet on January 26 when he appointed 21 cabinet secretaries plus one with no portfolio served by Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju.
