Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Muhamud’s victory hangs in balance after a court directed for the scrutiny of electoral materials used during the August polls.
According to the Daily Nation, the court has ordered for the examination of materials used in 150 of the polling stations in the county to determine whether the election of the governor is valid or not.Justice Alfred Mabeya issued the directive after the former governor Mr Ahmed Abdullahi requested to have all the materials used in the exercise scrutinized.“I hereby allow the scrutiny of all the balloting materials used in the Wajir County governor’s election,” Justice Mabeya ruled, as quoted by the local dailyThe former County boss, through his lawyers Omwanza Ombati and David Jesse for Mr Abdullahi said that the outcome of the August exercise did not reflect the will of the people. The team also insisted that it has adequate evidence against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the current county boss., “There was blatant violation of election rules by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials conducting the poll in the northern frontier county,” Mr Ombati told the judge. The incumbent has, however, insisted that he won in a free and fair manner.
