Mahmoud who was born on May 1, 1949 died on Monday night at his home in Sega, Mombasa County.
The football legend, 68, breathe his last after returning from India where he had been taken for treatment.
Mahmoud struggled to rise from a humble background to become one of Kenya’s national sports heroes.
He was goalkeeper for National side Harambee Stars between 1968-1974 after being discovered as a talented player at the age of 19 after completing school at Arab Boys and Khamis Secondary School.
He played his first game in Zanzibar Tanzania in the East African Challenge at the age of 23 before joining the national team at the African Cup of Nations tournament in 1972 which was held in Cameroon.
Mahmoud was privileged to visit many countries including Germany where he stayed for one and half months while playing against different teams.
He joined the work force in 1974 at Casaruna resort and later other major resorts around Kenya. He traveled to Middle East and stayed there until 1999 when he returned home.
In 2005, he suffered a heart attack and later on in 2014 got a stroke that paralyzed his left side.
He remained incapacitated until he passed on Monday night. He was father to four children.
