Sofapaka owner Elly Kalekwa has rewarded former Kenyan international John Baraza with a new long-term basis contract as coach after having him on the books on temporary basis since March.
It is a reprieve for the 43-year old whose charges have seen Batoto Ba Mungu lose just once in as many matches.
“Baraza has been my player, I took him for coaching classes and the team is now doing very well under him,” said Kalekwa.
“I have more than 100 resumes from foreign coaches looking for a chance to coach Sofapaka, but Baraza is my man,” he added.
Kalekwa further expressed his joy at being able to work with Baraza who has transformed Sofapaka for the little time that he has been in charge.
Their most notable performance was the outclassing of KPL pacesetters Gor Mahia but were unlucky to slip up their lead and draw when it looked like they were going to win.
Baraza has transformed Sofapaka into a well-balanced and discipline team in all departments from the defense to their forward line.
They have recently been playing some good football and it could be seen in their possession-based approach to the game and also the pressing.
It remains to be seen how the 2008 KPL champions progress with their now permanent manager and former player.
