Former nominated Senator Paul Njoroge has announced his interest to vie for presidency in the 2022 General Election.

Njoroge, who hails from Nakuru County, also announced he has decamped from the oldest party in the country, KANU.

Speaking to Saturday Nation, the controversial politician said he left the party led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi after realising the outfit was becoming a 'regional' party.

"KANU is fast losing its popularity. It is no longer the party it used to be some years ago. Now it has been left to few individuals from the same locality," he said.

Njoroge said he will run in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as an Independent candidate.

"My desire to vie for the top seat is driven by the runaway corruption in the country which I am determined to end," he said.

Njoroge, who was nominated by Jubilee Party to the Senate, ditched the ruling party ahead of party primaries early this year.

The former Senator accused Jubilee leadership of having predetermined aspirants in the August 8 General Election.

He contested for Nakuru gubernatorial seat on a KANU ticket but lost to the incumbent Lee Kinyanjui of Jubilee Party.
