Former nominated Jubilee Senator Joy Gwendo was on Friday afternoon arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over abuse of office and Sh2.2 million theft. The money is said to belong to members of a cooperative society in Kisumu.The former senator was taken to the EACC headquarters in Nairobi for grilling and released on cash bail of Sh100, 000.Gwendo will appear in court on Monday to face charges of stealing public resources and issuing a bouncing cheque.Speaking shortly after being released, Gwendo said she will cooperate with the EACC detectives, adding that she will defend herself against the allegations when she appears in court on Monday.The ex-senator vied for the Kisumu East parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket in the August 8, 2017 general election but lost to Shakeel Shabbir.Gwendo was a nominated senator between 2013 and 2017.The former legislator is alleged to have committed the offence in October and December 2016.
