A former Kilifi County government driver is among nine al-Shabaab suspects being hunted by the police.Issa Abdallah Kauni's photo is among those that were circulated by police last week saying he’s among terror suspects planning fresh attacks in the country, the Nation has reported. The revelation comes even as police raised their antennae over possible terror attacks in the Coast region. The 26-year-old man is said to have worked for the county government as a driver for six months before he went missing three years ago from his Malindi home to join the Somali militant group, the Nation had reported. In November 2014, the county’s HR department published a poster declaring him a “missing person”.In 2015, Kauni’s father, Abdallah Mohammed appealed to the government to help him trace his son and bring him back home to face trial.Mohammed said his son had disappeared from the county headquarters where he worked as a driver.“He was a very good boy. We educated him through difficulties and he used to help us before he disappeared. We want the government to help us trace him,” he said then during an interview with the Nation.Even then, he did not believe Kauni was a terrorist.Police in 2015, released photos of four suspected terrorists — Abulkadir Abubakar Abdulkadir, Kauni, Hussein Said Omar, alias Babli, and Ahmed Said Omar, alias Dogo.Abdulkadir, Kauni and Omar are among the nine suspects on IG Joseph Boinnet's list that was released last week.
