Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has announced plans to swear himself in as the ‘Governor of the people of Kisumu’ following Opposition Leader Raila Odinga’s inauguration as ‘people’s president’.
Ranguma who took a petition to the court of appeal on Friday 2, challenging the election of Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o said that he was contemplating taking the matter into his own hands after the petition was ‘unfairly dismissed. ’
“Raila has set the precedent, his vote was stolen and he is now the people’s president. Would it be wrong if I followed cue and also claimed what’s mine?” Ranguma said.
The former county boss was speaking during the burial of Voice of Salvation and Healing Church founder Silas Owiti in Kano, Nyando sub county which was his strong base and home turf in the run up to the August 8th elections.
In the petition, Ranguma argued that Governor Nyong'o and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) colluded to rig him out of the election.
“The IEBC officials were able to access the servers, edit results and make the declaration in favor of Prof Nyong’o,” said Mr Ranguma.
The high court had in January dismissed Ranguma's petition and ordered him to pay Sh 5 million but the ex-governor moved to the appellate court arguing that the judge of the lower court erred in his ruling.
