Former Kenya Premier League (KPL) Champions Mathare United have signed the seventh player ahead of KPL 2018 season kick off. The new season will officially kick off on the first weekend of next month.
The 2008 KPL champions have signed defender Johnstone Omurwa from newly promoted side Wazito Football Club. The defender joins the Slum Boys on a three year deal.
“Johnstone Omurwa has joined the club on a three year deal from newly promoted Wazito. Omurwa is a utility player that can comfortably play across the defense line as well as holding midfield,” the club announced on Tuesday via the official face book page - Mathare United FC.
The 19 year old defender becomes the seventh player to join the Slum boys in the current transfer window after Job Ochieng, Francis Omondi, Gilbert Osonga, Klinsmann Omulanga, Clifford Alwanga and Mike Simiyu.
In the mean time, the club has parted ways with goal keeper Mark Kioko on a mutual consent.
Kioko joined the team in January 2017. He only made two appearances in the 2017 league campaign. “He leaves the club after one season and we wish him all the best in his career,” reads a post on the club’s face book page.
