The outgoing IEBC commissioners should be subjected to prosecution and consequently imprisonment due to scandals that the officials have been implicated in, notes former LSK boss Okong’o Mogeni.
According to Mogeni who was speaking on Sunday, the officials should be investigated over the failed BVR kits, Chicken Gate scandal among other malpractices.
“These are a bunch of people who have been accused of all mannerism of electoral malpractices and corruption which can be prosecuted in the court of law and they deserve to be in jail. We have heard of the chicken gate and unprocedural process of BVR kits acquisition and they should be answerable to Kenyans. Time has come for us to fight the impunity.”
He also differed with the joint house committee on paying the commissioners all their salaries extending to the period they were to be in office insisting that it is unconstitutional.
“The constitution is very clear. You cannot pay people for work not done and if they have agreed to exit office let them do so without demanding a pay. We must stick with the truth and the truth remains those are people with questionable integrity,” he said.
The commissioners are expected to vacate office after an in-depth discussion by a joint Senate and National Assembly committee that was mandated to find the best political agreement that would see them leave office following weeks of protests by the opposition.
