Former Law Society of Kenya Chairman Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi has called for the disbandment of an ‘elite death squad’ in the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID).
According to a post on his twitter handle, Nasir the CID offices to disband a unit he called 'elite death squad', whic he says is involved in some killings.
“To stop extra judicial killings in Kenya disband the elite death squad under the command of the CID director and head of anti terror unit,” read the post.
Abdullahi further revealed that even foreign diplomats based in Nairobi know that the CID directorate has a killer squad that kills anyone the government wants, and further asked for the prosecution of officers who kill and give orders.
The Kenya police has recently been blamed for a series of extrajudicial killings, and last week, a lawyer; Willie Kimani, his client Josphat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were murdered under unclear circumstances with police officers suspected to have been involved.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga accused the government of killing business man and Jubilee critic Jacob Juma using a police hit squad code named ‘Kwekwe squad’.
“There is no unit or squad known as the kwekwe squad. It doesn’t exist,” National Police Service spokesman George Kinoti told a local newspaper when the claims surfaced.
