Former Riruta Member of County Assembly (MCA) Samwel Ndung’u, on Monday in court, denied charges of taking part in the murder of his 24-years-old wife Lucy Njambi.
Ndung’u told the court that he and his wife were abducted in an incident that he narrowly got the opportunity to escape unhurt.
Through his lawyer, Robert Mutitu, the former MCA pleaded not guilty for the killing of his wife who was found at Kamiti Corner badly hurt and taken to Kiambu Hospital. She was later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital where she died.
According to witnesses account, the couple is said to have been having dinner, served by Njambi's house help at the parking bay shortly before two men ambushed them and dragged them into their (attackers’) vehicle and sped away. Witnesses said it appeared like an abduction.
Mutitu told the court that his client was arrested at Kiambu Level Five Hospital where he had gone to visit his wife.
“The arrest was because of pressure from Njambi’s relatives who are not in good terms with him,” said the lawyer.
Ndung’u told the court that he was ready to record a statement with the police and give his side of the story that will prove why he escaped the abduction unhurt.
Ndung’u said that he is greatly affected by the death of his beloved wife whom, he said, had moved out of their Lavington house. He beseeched the court to release him to go home to his two families but the court ordered his detention for 10 more days.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, through a representative Catherine Gatheca told the court that the police needed a fortnight to complete investigations on the matter that lead to the death of Njambi.
