Former Mombasa Mayor Taib Ali Taib is among the 35 candidates who have applied for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson post.
Others who have applied for the position include National Police Service Commissioner Murshid Mohammed, former Transition Authority Chairman Kinuthia Wa Mwangi, Florence Muoti Mwangangi - former LSK representative at the Judicial Service Commission, Elias Kithure from Meru and Collins Okinyi of Migori.
Professors Susan Abong’o from Kisumu and Sussy Gumo from Trans Nzoia are the only women applicants.
This comes after the Bernadette Musundi-led IEBC Selection Committee revoked the names of five candidates who had earlier applied for the post, citing unsuitability.
The five were asked not to re-apply for the vacancy.
After the interviews, two names will be submitted to President Uhuru Kenyatta who will nominate the chairman and send the name to Parliament for vetting.
Uhuru will also receive nine names from which he shall nominate six commissioners.
