The former Mombasa regional commissioner Nelson Marwa has been replaced.

Marwa's position has been taken by the outgoing Nairobi regional commissioner Bernard Leparmarai.

The changes were made after the Interior CS Fred Matiang'i reshuffled regional and county commissioners on Monday.

This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Nelson Marwa as the PS in the Ministry of Devolution headed by Cabinet Secretary Eugine Wamalwa.

Leparmai who was initially the Baringo County Commissioner before he was moved to Nairobi will be tasked with coordinating government functions in the Coast region.

He will be expected to ensure that Al Shabaab insurgence in Boni Forest is completely wiped out in coordination with the Kenya Defense troops manning the forest.

Lemparmai will also be expected to curtail drug cartels that operate in the region which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Malindi, Lamu, Taita taveta, Kwale and Tana River Counties.

Marwa who was a no nonsense regional coordinator rubbed shoulders on several occasions with coast leaders including Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Kilifi's Amason Kingi over their solid stand against the government among other issues.

The interior ministry also undertook reshuffles of 8 other regional commissioners and the 47 county commissioners.

The changes which were made public today will be effected as from February 2, 2018.
