Former Moyale Member of Parliament, Philip Godana has been shot dead at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County.

Addressing the press at the deceased's home on Saturday, his cousin and close friend Prof Jaldesa Guyo said the incident occurred at around 3am.

Guyo said unknown assailants broke into Godana’s house after gaining entry into the compound by climbing over the perimeter fence.

According to Guyo, the culprits broke window panes and cut grills of one of the windows which they used to gain entry into the house.

He stated that the perpetrators first went to one of the deceased daughters' room whom they ordered at gun point to take them to their father's bedroom.

Guyo said that the daughter complied by taking them to the room upon which they collected the deceased's widow and her four children, locked them to a separate room before shooting dead the former MP.

He said there was no resistance from the deceased but they killed him anyway. He added that the killers only stole a TV set.

Guyo said the deceased's guard escaped from the home by jumping over the perimeter wall behind the house when they heard the commotion.

Tuka Jirmo, another cousin of the deceased, said his death was a big blow to entire Borana community.

"Godana was not just an ordinary person and the community has lost one of the most influential leaders, Borana elder and decision maker," said Jirmo.

A house girl at the house who had her room in separate house within the compound said she was woken up by the commotion, she heard two bullet shots around the said time.

The deceased's body was moved to Shalom Community Mortuary in Athi River, Machakos County.
