Keroka Township wrangles are a creation of local leaders, former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati has said.
Nyambati’s sentiments come less than a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta cancelled a trip at eleventh hour following intelligence reports that resident could have shown their animosity in front of the Head of State.
He blamed local leaders for allegedly failing to be proactive leading to escalation of the situation that has seen several people sustaining injuries following fighting.
“I am shocked that the Keroka crisis can go to the extent that our people are now fighting amongst themselves. This shows how local leadership is weak because they have failed to contain a small crisis,” he said.
“The crisis is a self-creation because our people have lived together in harmony. They have failed to come together and address the matter in a brotherly manner,” Nyambati said.
He proposed that the county with a larger territorial percentage to take charge in revenue collection and distribute the outcome based on the ownership ratio.
“We know the boundary and who owns where. This should not be a debate at all. Perhaps what they should do is that Nyamira should collect revenue because it owns a larger portion and share the resources with Kisii based on ownership ratio. That is the only way we can restore normalcy in this town,” he said.
The crisis talks were postponed earlier this week by Senator Okong’o Mong’are to May 9, after Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama failed to turn up.
