Former Ijara MP Ibrahim Abass stands a better chance of winning the Garissa County speaker contest as Members of the County Assembly take part in the voting exercise today.
Former Fafi MCA Mustapha Abdirashid and Abdikadir Aden, who unsuccessfully contested for the Balambala parliamentary seat are also in the race for the seat.
According to county assembly clerk Mohamud Santur, the race only attracted three candidates, who are all confident of victory. Abass is banking on the support of the incumbent governor Ali Korane to clinch the post following his endorsement. It is said that the governor met all the MCAs from the county to rally them behind Abass.
On his part, Abass has remained upbeat that will trounce his opponents hands down to win the post amidst stiff competition from his opponents
“Let us wait for tomorrow when the MCAs will elect the speaker. I have put myself forward for election and I have the necessary credentials and experience. I am optimistic that they will elect me,” Abass said on phone.
The county assembly clerk has said that everything is set ahead of the exercise.
