Former Changamwe MP Ramadhan Seif Kajembe has called for peace and tolerance, ahead of the repeat presidential election slated for October 26.Addressing a political forum in Mombasa on Tuesday, Kajembe said Kenyans should not allow conflict in the country in the name of competitive elections.Kajembe condemned the withdrawal of National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga from the presidential rematch, saying the move was meant to foment political and constitutional crisis. The former legislator said politicians can have different political views and opinions but that should not create enmity among the different communities in the country. He said the opposition and the government have the responsibility to ensure the repeat presidential election takes place in a free, fair and peaceful environment.“Political tolerance and peaceful electioneering is the responsibility of all the political players,” he said. His sentiments were reiterated by Ibrahim Khamis famously known as ‘Babangida’ a former gubernatorial hopeful, who urged Kenyans to maintain peace and ensure voters turn out in large numbers.“Kenyans should not allow selfish and self -serving individuals to put their interest above those of the country,” said Khamis.Babangida said the opposition coalition NASA should allow Kenyans to choose their preferred presidential candidates.“What we want before, during and after the election is peace and prosperity,” he added.
