Former Juja Member of Parliament Stephen Rugendo Ndichu is the new Kiambu County Assembly speaker.

Ndichu, who lost to Kimani Wamatangi in the Kiambu senatorial race, emerged the winner after 71 MCAs supported his bid.

His closest challenger and Kabete MP loser Charles Chege Gitau aka 'Chege Fresh' garnered 7 votes.

Former Limuru MCA Njenga Murugami was third with 6 votes.

Outgoing speaker Gathii Irungu did not defend his seat in the race which had a total of 12 candidates.

Ndichu thanked the newly sworn-in ward representatives and promised to work closely with them and the Governor Ferdinand Waititu-led county government.
