A form one student at Kisii School who had been sent home for lack of school fee has been rescued by a former member of parliament who offered to educate him till completion of secondary school.
Ferdinand Abuya, who has been splitting firewood for people to earn a living, received the news on Tuesday from Joash Sese, a close confidant of former legislator Walter Nyambati, when he was executing his normal chores to earn his living.
According to Mr Sese, the former MP vowed to support the young man up to the highest level provided he showed zeal and vigour in his academic performances.
“I received a call from Nyambati and asked me to salvage the situation. It is quite appalling that a young mind like this can afford not to attend classes because of school fee. He has to go back immediately and join his colleagues,” said Mr Sese.
“For now, we will clear the school fee for the whole year and other payments will be made later. He has offered to support the young man to the highest level that pleases him as long as he performs well,” he added.
Abuya, who could not hide his joy lauded the former legislator and promised to work hard and help his ailing grandmother and two siblings when he grows up.
“I really appreciate this great honour that the former MP has accorded to me. I have to work hard now and prove that I am capable so that I can help my siblings and grandmother in future,” he said.
