Former Golole MP Dhado Godana has joined the crowded Tana River County gubernatorial race, his entry throwing the spanner into the works for incumbent Hussein Dado's bid for a second term in office.

For a county that is regarded as a swing region, party politics will not have huge bearing on who clinches the seat come August. Instead, tribal arithmetic is expected to springboard each candidates' political ambitions.Godana will try his luck on an ODM ticket even as he faces a daunting task to unseat Dado who recently decamped from Wiper Party to his new-found love Jubilee Party. It will not be an easy ride though for Dado who despite enjoying the advantage of incumbency has of late become unpopular in the county with former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana heavily tipped to edge him out in the race for the Jubilee party ticket.Godana who comes from the majority Pokomo community is banking on his tribe's numbers to outsmart his rivals. And already, he has been endorsed by a section of the Pokomo elders.Keen to reverse his community's poor show in the 2013 elections where the minority tribes united against the Pokomo and won all the elective seats, the former lawmaker believes that consensus may help this time around. The former MP who has been Dado's fiercest critics exuded confidence that he will trounce all other hopefuls come August even as he hopes to correct the incumbent's 'mess' in the county.
