Outgoing Balambala MP Abdikadir Aden and Outgoing Ijara MP Ibrahim Abass have both exuded confidence that they will win the seat when that time comes.
The race has attracted seven candidates and clans are expected to play a pivotal role during the process. Immediate former speaker Mohamed Abbey, Mohamed Arale, Dagane Karur, Ahmed Nadir and Issa Mohameda have also declared interest in the seat.
Aden, the ODM organising secretary, says that he is the best candidate for the post since he has experience.
“Having mastered the traditions and practices of the National Assembly, I have the ability to offer impartial leadership in the House,” he said, as quoted by Star.
The politician, a holder of a master’s degree in Economics, also said that he will deliver if given the mandate to take over the speaker’s seat.
“I am one person who is guided by principles and will do my best to discharge the duties. We will work with all arms of the government to ensure the assembly performs oversight duties well.”
The lawmaker said that the he will be seeking for support to become the speaker at the opportune moment.
