Former Nairobi town clerk John Gakuo has been jailed over the scandalous cemetery land deal which involved a cool Sh283 million.
The lad was bought in Mavoko.Gakuo and former Local Government PS Sammy Kirui were jailed on Tuesday for three years after the court found them guilty of abuse of office and breach of procurement procedures.
The two were also fined Sh1 million each. The ruling was made by chief magistrate Douglas Ogot.
In 2010, the then Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi told a House Committee investigating the scam that he was not involved in the fraud.
He told the committee that there was no evidence of communication between him and any office asking him to approve the purchase.
Mudavadi laid the blame on Permanent Secretary Sammy Kirui.
“Anybody looking at this matter will come to the conclusion that the minister wasn’t supposed to be in the know over the matter,” Mudavadi said.
