Residents of Ngungani, Mwingi North sub-county have faulted government of former governor Dr Julius Malombe for using Sh9 million to construct a poor quality drift which has been washed away.

The ongoing heavy rains have caused hue and cry in Ngungani, Mwingi North Sub County.  According to the Star, over 8000 residents in this part of the nation have been cut off after a section of the land was washed away by floods after there was the heavy downpour. The residents of the area have been left in panic following the wash away of Ighuini drift.

The new development has made life unbearable for residents relying on relief food since lorries cannot access the area because of the floods.

“From the word go we realized that the drift would not last long due to the apparent poor workmanship and lack of supervision by the county technical team,” resident Kimanzi Mutemi said, as quoted by the local daily.

The residents have said that they will take to the streets in protest against the administration over their woes amid talks to suspend the same.

“We planned a demonstration to protest the shoddy work but we were talked into suspending it.”
