Former Governor John Mruttu has finally announced his next move after losing in the August General elections. According to a local daily, Mruttu has announced his intentions to form a Coast-based party that will fight for the economic growth and political stability of the region.

Speaking during a meeting at a Voi hotel at the weekend, the former county boss said that the party will ensure that the rights of Coast residents are protected. He argued that the Coastal region has been sidelined in matters of development, adding that time has come for the leaders to wake up from slumber and save their people from historical injustices they have suffered since independence.

"Coast region has been sidelined for over 50 years now. It is time to unite for a common course," he said during a meeting attended by more than 2000 of his supporters, as quoted by The Star.

He also said that the leaders from the region have been following other political outfits, whose main aim is to use and dump them, adding that the new party will deal with issues affecting the residents of the region.

"We have blindly followed other political parties yet we gain little from them. Our party will handle residents' welfare."

The new development comes at a time when Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi are pushing for the secession of the Coast region.
