Former National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Major Rtd Michael Gichangi has been elected Kenya Airways (KQ) director.Gichangi who was elected during the national carriers’ 41st Annual General Meeting held on September 22 in Nairobi.He joined KQ, as it’s known by its international tag, alongside Prof Paul Mwangi Maringa and Ms Caroline Armstrong.The soft spoken military officer served as the head of the board of Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) since October 29, 2016 when he was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to steer the institution for three years.He was, however, replaced at PSRA by former Narok veteran politician the late William ole Ntimama’s son, Amos Sipoi, following a Gazette notice published on December 14, 2016 when Uhuru revoked his appointment.Prior to his appointment as PSRA’s board head he had resigned from NIS on personal reasons.The much decorated Major-General was appointed to head Kenya’s intelligence gathering in 2006 for a five-year term. The term was renewed in 2011.His co-director at KQ Prof Mwangi holds a PhD in Philosophy—Environmental Planning from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master of Arts in Planning-Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degree from the same institution.Ms Armstrong on the other hand has vast experience in project management and in the banking industry.The three will be expected to restore hope in the Pride of Africa as it battles financial storms that have seen it reduce its fleet and cut jobs as it seeks to recover from losses caused by a slump in tourism and the cost of renewing its fleet.
