The Nation Media Group (NMG) fraternity is mourning the demise of former Mombasa Bureau Chief, Njuguna Mutonya.Mutonya died on Sunday while being rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Confirming the news, his wife Susan Wanjiru, said that the deceased had been admitted Nairobi’s Avenue Health Care Hospital until Wednesday before he discharged.
She also revealed that the former editor, who once worked as a lecturer at the Technical University of Mombasa, was recovering after being diagnosed with heart-related complications before he met his untimely death. Wanjiru, an officer in charge of procurement at the Technical University of Mombasa, described the demise of the former editor is a great blow to the family.
Mutonya started working as an editor with NMG in 1989. In 1995, he was appointed to head the Mombasa bureau until 2009 before he resigned.
