Speaking on Thursday at Tombe market, Abuya Abuya who served as Kitutu Masaba MP in 80s said devolution had impacted positively on locals through equitable distribution of resources.

The former legislator urged MCAs and county governments to create a good working relationship to realise more development.

“Devolved governance was the remedy to problems which we had been facing since independence. In the few years we have been in the system, we have seen hospitals being built and education being supported through county governments,” said Abuya.

Supporting his sentiments, former North Mugirango MP Fred Masanya urged the national government to increase the amount resources disbursed to the counties but insisted accountability and oversight was crucial.

“Personally, I think devolution has really helped us realise a lot of development. The money being disbursed by the national government is too little and the state should look into that. But it is important for governors to be held accountable for every sent they spend,” said Musanya.

This comes at a moment when some county governments and their respective governors are facing corruption related allegations.
