Former Nyaribari Chache lawmaker Robert Monda has challenged security chiefs in the country to increase the number of police officers in social gathering as a way of eliminating possible attacks by terrorists.
Speaking on Thursday at a Kisii hotel, Monda said social gatherings were possible targets for the Somali based terror group, Al Shabab, which recently claimed responsibility to numerous terrorist attacks in the country.
He said most social events are poorly manned making them dangerous hence easy targets for ill intended people.
“I would like to ask security chiefs to increase the presence of security agents in social gatherings especially in local areas. Many of them like Harambee and sporting activities are poorly manned and some of them are not manned at all,” he said.
“This is very risky and we may lose more lives through such kind of events. When it comes to terror, it is difficult to know where they are striking next and that is why we have to be more vigil for our own sake,” he added.
He asked locals to tip security agents whenever they have prior information of an impending attack since security was a collective issue.
“As civilians, let us remember that we have an obligation of informing security officers in times of intelligence information. Security starts with us and we must help the government succeed,” he added.
