Taita Taveta Women Representative Joyce Lay on Monday started a new political journey after presenting her nomination papers to IEBC to vie for senator.
The lawmaker who submitted her nomination papers at Mwatate Danida hall would later join hundreds of her supporters before joining other women and religious leaders for prayers at Wundanyi. In a race that is very open with all political heavyweights in the county gunning for the governor seat, only a few opponents may be standing between her and history as the first woman to be elected senator in the country. It will not be an easy ride though as she will have to fight the ODM wave in the region that is seen as an opposition zone. However, she will be banking on her development record to win the seat that is currently held by Dan Mwazo, who is eying the governor seat. With the blessings of President Kenyatta, Lay has an extra responsibility of selling the Jubilee Party’s agenda in the Coast region. She, however, has maintained that she is equal to the task. Also cleared are Ford Kenya's Cleopus Maghanga and Enoch Mwachala who is vying as an independent.
