A former ODM MP has said that NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga is set to make history as the first ever politician to lose elections twice in a year. Mr Mpuru Aburi, the former member of parliament for Tigania East, said Mr Odinga is set to lose five presidential contests in his career. In last month’s general election, President Uhuru Kenyatta defeated the ODM leader by more than 1.4 million votes, but the Supreme Court nullified the outcome due to mistakes by IEBC officials in the transmission of the results. The petition by Odinga did not dispute President Kenyatta’s votes. Mr Aburi, a former Odinga ally, alleged that the Supreme Court had colluded with the former prime minister to invalidate President Kenyatta’s win.He accused Odinga of doing nothing for the people of Meru County in the five years he served as prime minister. Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, on his part, predicted that President Kenyatta will beat Odinga by a wider margin in the October 17 election.“I know Meru will vote for Uhuru in anger and the margin between Uhuru and NASA leader Raila Odinga will be even bigger,” Kiraitu said, as quoted by The Star. The governor, who defeated Peter Munya in last month’s general election, praised President Kenyatta for initiating many development projects in the county. President Kenyatta got close to 90% of the Meru votes. Local leaders say the Jubilee boss’ performance in the county is likely to be much better.
