Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has revealed that the government will not hesitate to arrest the Opposition leader Raila Odinga if investigations establish that he incited the Maasai community against "outsiders" when he toured Kajiado County, last week.

Nkaissery said the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has started a probe and a report on the investigations is expected to be out next week.

"If Kaparo (NCIC Chair) gives instructions, the Director of Criminal Investigations will swing into action; the Director of Public Prosecutions will also be there to prosecute. No one is above the law,” he said.

The CS made the remarks at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) during St John Ambulance’s 89th annual inspection parade on Sunday.

He said it was very disheartening for a leader of Raila’s calibre to incite Kenyans against each other on tribal lines, insisting that action must be taken against the NASA presidential candidate.

“Kaparo has a duty to Kenyans because what was said amounts to incitement. No one is above the law. As long as I remain the CS for Interior, we will protect and defend the country from anybody... It is wrong for somebody who wants to be President to make such remarks,” Nkaissery was quoted by the Standard.

The CS added:  "You can buy land anywhere so long as it is on a willing seller-willing buyer basis.  Some people in the area have inter-married. How do you refuse our in-laws to live with us?"

Raila has come under heavy criticism from top Jubilee leaders including Deputy President William Ruto who accused the former Prime Minister of engaging in retrogressive politics.

"No politician should engage in politics of eviction in the 21st Century. There is no room for that," Ruto said during a rally in Kiambu County on Sunday.
