Former nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Ms Caroline Awuor Agwanda has landed a post in the Kisumu County government.
Agwanda has been appointed Head of the Disability Project in the Office of the Governor of Kisumu County, under the Special Delivery Unit.
Ms Agwanda was nominated by the ODM party to represent interests of people living with disability in the Kisumu County Assembly, after the 2013 general elections.
She silently disappeared from the political scene after last year’s general elections, when she contested for an MCA seat and lost.
“I worked with Hon Caroline Agwanda and she articulated disability issues very well. I extend my sincere congratulations on her appointment as the Head of Disability Project in the Office of the Governor, under the Special Delivery Unit,” Mrs. Farida Ahmed Salim, also a former nominated MCA congratulated Agwanda.
Agwanda, the mother of three is remembered for initiating the County Disability Bill, which was later adopted by the Kenya Disability Parliamentarians caucus in all the 47 counties.
Kisumu County has the Persons with Disability Act, which provides for the establishment of a County Disability Board and a County Disability Development Fund.
During her time in the Kisumu County Assembly, she introduced 17 motions, among them the Access to Information, which is now an Act.
