A former ODM rebel MP has landed a top post in President Uhuru Kenyatta's new appointments.
Ken Obura who was Kisumu Central MP between 2013 and 2017 was appointed Chief Administrative Secretary in the ministry of East African Community Affairs where former Meru Governor Peter Munya is Cabinet Secretary.
Chief Administrative Secretary is a new position and will broadly be responsible for helping the CS to coordinate running of affairs in respective ministries.
Obura in the run-up to the 2017 general elections was at loggerheads with a section of top politicians in the ODM party because of his close association with President Uhuru Kenyatta and generally the Jubilee administration.
The loyalty of the MP to the party was tested in April 2016 when he alongside one other ODM lawmaker attended the ‘Ocampo Six’ thanksgiving rally at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru County, where thousands of Kenyans turned out to pray for those whose cases over post-election violence had been terminated by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Also in attendance during the rally was Karachuonyo MP James Rege who by then was also considered a rebel. Both MPs lost during the August 8 general election.
