After leaving his mission as Kenya's Ambassador to the USA in 2013, Elkanah Odembo has maintained an uncharacteristically low profile opting to operate behind the scenes.
However, the former powerful envoy who hails from from the same county as NASA leader Raila Odinga, Siaya, is slowly starting to resurface.
On Friday, when the former Prime left the country to help in the mediation to restore peace in South Sudan, Odembo was conspicuously present in his delegation and this could be a sign that the former envoy has won Raila's trust.
Odembo who once served as Kenya's Ambassador to France for one year before moving to Washington DC, is said to be one of Raila's trusted allies outside political circles.
In fact, it is claimed that Raila played a key role in his rise in diplomatic matters until he held the high profile embassies.
Interestingly, Odembo who is a Biologist, happens to be Raila's brother-in-law. His wife, Aoko Midiwo is sister to former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo who is Raila's cousin.
Is the former envoy keen to try his hand in politics in 2022? Well, time will tell.
