Media reports indicate that two mainstream televisions Citizen TV and NTV have been switched off in certain parts of the country.
The reports have triggered a storm on social media with Kenyans weighing in on the issue.
''We need to understand the circumstances that have triggered the action. We don't know yet why that has happened. But on principle, I think the freedom of the press must be respected. But then again you have to interrogate the circumstances,'' Dr. Kaluyu Kavinga said.
Kaluyu Kavinga spoke today on a television programme.
Details around the extent of the shut down are still sketchy as the stations are still accessible on some platforms.
