A former journalist has died after drowning while swimming in a dam.
David Kiarie,35, Who hails from Nyandarua was a former journalist and worked for Nation Media Group.
Kiarie was swimming in a dam in Ruiru on Wednesday when he drowned but his body was recovered on Friday.
According to his brother in law Michael Kamau, Kiarie signed in at Titanic Restaurant on Wednesday and was later seen readying himself to swim.
"After a while, he was seen changing into shorts ready to swim and later jumping into the dam where he swam for a few minutes before disappearing into the waters arousing the curiosity of the onlookers," Kamau was quoted by the Daily Nation.
Witnesses at the hotel reported the incident to the management who sought help from local authorities in finding Kiarie's family members. His belongings were found abandoned at an area within the hotel. Divers were able to retrieve his body on Friday after hours of searching.
