Former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro has asked NASA leaders to call off the anti-IEBC protests.Speaking during an interview on NTV on Monday, Mung’aro said the opposition will not achieve anything by asking supporters to take the streets.Mung’aro, who decamped from ODM to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party in 2015, said NASA leaders are not ready for the repeat poll, adding that they are using the street protests to delay the rematch. He said NASA is using every trick to have the repeat election postponed over fear of losing to President Uhuru.“NASA leaders must stop the street demonstrations and understand that elections are never won on the streets but on the ballot,” said Mung’aro. The Kilifi County Jubilee point man hit out at NASA, accusing the opposition coalition of plunging the country into a state of confusion and panic.“What they (NASA) want is to cause fear and anxiety and prevent Kenyans from exercising their constitutional right of voting,” said Mung’aro. The former MP said NASA's recent protests have had a negative impact on the country’s economy. He accused the opposition of holding the country at ransom with the intention of causing political and economic instability.“NASA's delays tactics will not work and they should get ready for another humiliating defeat,” he added.Mung’aro who contested for the Kilifi governor seat in the August 8 polls and lost to Amason Kingi urged Kenyans not to be misled by the opposition to engage in violence. He called for calm and peace ahead of the repeat presidential poll slated for October 26.
