Addressing the press in Nakuru on Friday, the former opposition leader Raila Odinga ally vowed to spearhead Ruto's presidential campaigns in the county, maintaining that he is fit to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

''Ruto remains one of the top contenders and the most likely candidate to take over after President Uhuru Kenyatta's retirement in 2022,'' he said.

''I will be in the front line campaigning for him in the county to ensure that he achieves the dream and becomes our next head of state,'' said the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) member.

His remarks, however, comes at a time when the top Jubilee leadership has directed all its leaders and allies to shun the 2022 debate and concentrate on service delivery to Kenyans.

The MP came to power in 2013 when he won the Nakuru Town West MP seat on Odinga's ODM party ticket before abandoning him for Uhuru's Jubilee in 2017.
