Former Kwale Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga has warned Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi against 'misleading' locals with secession.

Chidzuga, who lost re-election in the August 8 general election, claims that Joho and Kingi are using secession to fulfill their political desires.

Speaking to journalists in Kwale on Monday, Chidzuga said the call for secession is unwarranted, adding that Coast does not need to separate to realize its development agenda.

Chidzuga claimed that Joho is being used by NASA top leaders to cause rift in the region in the name of secession.

“Governor Joho and others advocating for secession should stop selfish agenda and instead bring Coast region together for development,” she said.

Chidzuga claimed that those advocating for secession are campaigning for their future political interests.

She urged the national government to take action against leaders pushing for secession alleging that their agenda is to cause conflict.

The former Raila Odinga ally urged Coast residents to remain united and shun politician using them to push their personal agenda.

On Sunday, Joho and Kingi maintained that push for secession is till on. The two  governors said that they will not be intimidated by the national government to drop their call.

Joho said that a convention involving Coast counties will be held soon to chart way forward and the road map for secession.

The leaders argues that secession is the only way that will end historical injustices perpetuated against coast residents by the current and previous regimes.

Last week, while opening the governor’s induction in Kwale County, President Uhuru Kenyatta said that his government will not condone people calling for secession.

The president said that Kenya will remain a unitary state, adding that those propagating for secession will be dealt with ruthlessly.
