[Photo/ the-star. co.ke]Former Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta over the criticism he is receiving for sending a congratulatory message to the police for work well done during the recently concluded election period.Speaking to journalists in Mombasa Town on Saturday, Mwahima said that the attack and criticism on president Kenyatta are unwarranted.Mwahima said that as the Commander in Chief of the Kenya forces, the president had every right to commend the men and women in uniform for their work during the prolonged election period.The former ODM MP hit out at a section of Kenyans and politicians accusing them of politicising the president's congratulatory message to the police.He said that police overworked during the election period to ensure the safety of every citizen despite the challenges they encountered while discharging their duties."The president did nothing wrong by congratulating our police officers who worked hard to ensure peace before, during and after the prolonged election period," he said.Mwahima, who ditched ODM and joined the Jubilee party asked politicians to keep politics out of development and give Jubilee government ample time to deliver to Kenyans.President Kenyatta has been on the receiving end after he sent out a congratulatory message to the police for handling security well during the ended election period.Uhuru's message has been condemned by a section of Kenyans and opposition politicians who term it a mockery of innocent Kenyans who allegedly died at the hands of the police during the election.Opposition politicians say that Uhuru's message was in bad taste and that his government is condoning police brutality.NASA has vowed to sue individual top police officers and the government for police brutality meted on its leaders and supporters.
