Elders in Rongo constituency have endorsed former University of Nairobi student leader David Osiany to take on former ODM strongman Dalmas Otieno for the MP seat.

Osiany is a close friend to ODM party leader Raila Odinga. He envisages to contest for the seat on an ODM ticket.

Mr Otieno has of recent been inactive in party work and in 2014, ODM accused him of warming up to the Jubilee coalition.

Mid 2015, there was anxiety across Nyanza region because of his prolonged absence from the political scene.

Otieno, a Makerere University-trained economist and businessman known for shooting straight from the hip, was Raila’s key strategist during the grand coalition government where he served as the Minister for Public Service.

Osiany's candidature for the constituency top seat was endorsed by Lameck Orieko, a member of the Luo Council of Elders.

"My candidature is about the people of Rongo," Osiany told the media.

"It is about ODM and Cord's aspirations for a better Kenya."
