Forward Clifford Alwanga has joined 2008 Kenya Premier League (KPL) Champions Mathare United.

He has joined the Slum Boys on a two year contract deal. Alwanga has been a free agent after he, and 13 others were released by Tusker FC last month.  

The forward’s arrival is expected to boost Mathare United’s striking department, that has young strikers; the likes of Chris Ochieng, Derrick Onyango and Elijah Mwanzia.

“I am happy to be here because this is a chance to revive my career. I have worked with Coach (Francis) Kimanzi before and I know what is expected of me,” Alwanga is quoted by Mathare United’s face book page.

“My target is to get more playing time and score at least 15 goals. Hopefully I will be a top contender for the top scorer award,” said the veteran striker.

The 32 year old Alwanga joined Tusker FC in 2014 from KCB. Current Mathare United coach Francis Kimanzi wa Tusker FC’s coach by then.

Mathare United is building a strong team ahead of 2018 KPL season set t kick off next month. The slum boys will open their league campaign against KPL debutants Vihiga United FC when the season officially kicks of early next month.

The team ended the 2017 KLP season at position 13 with 39 points.
