A former Uchumi Chief Finance officer was on Wednesday arrested over allegations of fraud and misconduct.
Chadwick Omondi was picked from his house by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations who later questioned him at the Muthaiga Police Station for several hours.
Okumu's arrest comes just a week after an audit report revealed that there were massive unscrupulous dealings within the financially troubled supermarket chain.
Sources close to the station disclosed to Nation that, Okumu will be arraigned at the Milimani Law Court on Friday morning.
Okumu was fired from the supermarket in June this year after being accused of gross misconduct during his tenure.
He was sacked alongside CEO Jonathan Ciano who was accused of negligence of duty at a time when the supermarket owed suppliers about Sh1 billion.
According to the audit report compiled by KPMG, Ciano was also implicated for allowing his wife to supply the supermarket chain with fresh produce.
Due to financial woes facing the chain, a number of branches have been closed across east Africa as a way of recovery.
