Concelia Ondiek, former Ugenya MP Archbishop Stephen Ondiek’s widow has been sentenced to two years in prison.
This is after she was convicted of false accounting and forgery while the acting Director at the Department of Secondary and Tertiary Education.
She was jailed alongside Dorothy Ndia who was a secretary at the Ministry of Education then.
Principal Magistrate Felix Kombo said the prosecution had proven its case against the two beyond a reasonable doubt.
He added that there was sufficient evidence to prove that the accused persons intended to defraud the Kenyan government.
The two were accused that on diverse dates between April 12 and June 30, 2009, at Jogoo House, they knowingly furnished false returns of Sh1.6 million intended for the purchase of stationery for Provincial and Regional building capacity workshops of instructional materials for secondary schools.
They also had been charged with giving false documents to their principals with Ondieki also accused of presenting two forged receipts worth 147,800 shillings on June 29, 2009, at Jogoo House with intent to defraud.
She purported to have received them from Sharif Stationeries and General Supplies for the purchase of assorted stationery.
The sentencing did not give the alternative of a cash fine but the two have 14 days to appeal the decision.
