Meru governor seat hopeful Kilemi Mwiria has announced that he will take a break from politics.

This is after he lost the race to Senator Kiraitu Murungi.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap member said on Thursday that he will focus on mentoring youths with political ambitions.

"Residents' minds were driven by money given to them. They forgot to focus on development records and capability," he told the press in the county.

Mwiria was President Uhuru Kenyatta's adviser before ditching Jubilee Party for Chap Chap.

By 2.30 pm today, Jubilee party candidate Kiraitu had 277,009 votes (52.05 per cent),

PNU incumbent Peter Munya 228,358 votes (42.91 per cent) and Mwiria 17215 votes (3.23 per cent).

These were the results for 1,447 out of 1,473 polling stations in a county with a total of 702,480 registered voters.
