[Photo: csis.org]Former US Ambassador to Kenya (2003-2006) William Bellamy has said that it will be hard at the moment to tell whether President Uhuru Kenyatta's second term presidency will be a legitimate one or not. This is if he is declared the winner of the October 26 poll and sworn in."At the moment we have to wait for the whole process to come to a conclusive end before we can judge the legitimacy of President Kenyatta," Bellamy told Al Jazeera's NewsHour on Friday morning from Washington DC."I understand there are areas where elections are yet to take place and it is only fair we wait for that time when everything is said and done before we can pass judgment," he added. However, Bellamy noted that there were serious issues in the run-up to October 26 poll that could lead to the election being nullified again should a petition land at Supreme Court. He said that the resignation of 'a senior commissioner' (Dr Roselyn Akombe) ahead of the polls and the issues she put forward on the inability of IEBC to hold a credible poll, would put the legitimacy of the election in doubt"We also saw the judges of the Supreme Court unable to raise a quorum when they were about to decide on the legality of the same election. All these matters are likely to come to play if the election is challenged in court," he said. The former ambassador noted that the solution to ending 'the current crisis in Kenya', is through bringing both sides together to dialogue.Bellamy further noted that Raila Odinga had already given his next strategy in form of resistance through civil disobedience but 'nobody knows what President Kenyatta strategy will be if he is sworn in for a second term.'
